Fast Times at 6 1/2 Months

We haven't posted any new photos for a couple weeks because Mateo's been keeping us quite busy with his 6-month-old energy, curiosity, and limited attention span. Plus our nanny quit last week (no, not because Mateo's antics caused her too much stress). She decided she wanted to take care of her new grandson, which is totally understandable but it put us into the difficult situation of finding a replacement ASAP -- fortunately, we found a good new nanny, Roni, who Anita knew from Women's Community Clinic, who will be watching Mateo 2-3 days per week until June, when she's leaving for Ghana for 10 months to work on a women's health project. We're also extremely fortunate that Anita's mom Sharon has volunteered to come stay with us and watch Mateo for 3 days every other week. It'll mean commuting to and from Las Vegas, but fortunately it's a short and relatively cheap flight, so hopefully it won't be too difficult for her.

Last weekend, we went to Bodega Bay for Jen's family's annual cioppino feast and camp-out. We usually camp by the beach for two nights, but this year we decided just to go up for the day, since it was a little too chilly for Mateo to sleep in a tent, especially since he hates being covered by blankets. Here are some photos of him playing with Sarah and Tuan's baby Allie. As you can see, he really liked playing with her - and all of her toys.

Mateo recently discovered his awesome baby flexibility, and now he loves putting his feet into his mouth, especially at bath time. He also loves pulling his socks off.

Like father, like son. We often find that we have dressed Mateo in the same color scheme that we are wearing for the day. There's nothing like a matching family.

The Boy with the Giant Diaper, Take 2! We are switching over to cloth diapers, which means Mateo needs extra padding at night...boy, that diaper is huge! But it actually works better than disposable, which were leaking nightly.

Mateo just got a new t-shirt from his Great-Grandma (Anita's Grandma, Barbara) from her recent trip to Jamaica. He loves it!

We have been giving Mateo "real" things to play with because he likes them better than toys. Here Mateo shows us how to make sure the lemon is just the right size.
